Story 4
Af was diagnosed with testicular cancer before he turned 30. But he hasn’t let that stop him from rolling with the punches
I had just finished working at the Rio 2016 Olympics and was living next to Copacabana Beach and about to travel South and North America before I looked for a new job and a new place to live. The day before I was flying to Argentina I went to the hospital for antibiotics for want I thought was an infection. They said it was a tumour and I flew back to England the next day instead.
Whilst feeling sick in Brazil and reading about testicular cancer, it says that you normally find a painless lump on the testicle, whereas I had a painful lump inside the testicle so I ruled out cancer and didn't get treatment as quick as I should have done. As a result it had spread to my lymph nodes near my kidneys, I was going to have to have chemotherapy.
