Carolina, one of our brill Trekstock ambassadors, was diagnosed with a kind of blood and bone marrow cancer when she was 30. She wants people to know the end of treatment is just as hard, if not harder, than the treatment itself.

Trekstock ambassador Carolina was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia when she was 30. Since then, she's been a huge part of Trekstock, supporting others making their way through treatment and beyond.

What do you want people to know about your experience?

My experience thought me that mental health is a key part of having a successful outcome when cancer and all its perks is involved. I think it's really important to keep your mental and emotional health in check while having treatment and after it.

What does being a young person who’s had a cancer diagnosis mean to you?

Being a young person who's had a cancer diagnosis means I now don’t take my health for granted, I am more in touch with myself and I live a more meaningful life.

What does being part of a community of young people who have also experienced cancer meant to you?

It means everything. Being part of a community of young people who've also had cancer help me to get reintroduced to society and life in general during and after my recovery.

How has Trekstock helped you thrive?

Trekstock allowed me to have access to that exclusive club of young adults with cancer to whom I was able to relate and see that there was a full future with everything I hoped for, everything I might want and that not everyone around you dies.

What does living life alongside cancer mean to you?

Living life alongside cancer means I live one day at a time and live my present. I don’t take anything for granted and I try to live a life without fear

What do you wish you’d known about cancer before your diagnosis?

I wish people knew that the recovery and the reintroduction to life after cancer is more difficult than the treatment.
