Dr. Steve Marshall is a Palliative Care Social Worker at King’s College Hospital, London. He has worked in oncology and palliative care, both in the UK and Australia, for the last 20 years. His research interests are: young people with cancer; LGBT issues in health care; cancer survivorship; and supporting families in bereavement. Steve has completed doctoral research at Lancaster University into the experience of teenagers and young adults having cancer treatment in an adult hospital.
‘I became interested in supporting young people living with cancer several years ago whilst working in Australia. I really enjoy working with this age group, and have learnt a great deal about the challenges of having cancer treatment during the formative years between childhood and adulthood. I have been lucky enough to take this interest further and conduct qualitative research with young people living with cancer, but much more research is needed to ensure better outcomes for this unique group of patients. I am very excited to become involved with Trekstock and hope my social work background will bring a different perspective to the Health Advisory Board’.
