Special ‘Bad Lieutenant’ After Show in Manchester 22/10!

For those who mourned the final break up of New Order in 2007 and still cling nostalgically to Joy Division’s final album Closer, a new source of solace can now be turned to. A collaboration among the members of the two bands, has spawned a project called ‘Bad Lieutenant’ and from what we saw, it’s a show not to be missed!

Bad Lieutenant line-up includes lead singer Bernard Sumner and guitarist Phil Cunningham of New Order. The band already has an album set to be released this October, accompanied by a tour and numerous music festival stops including some great dates leading up to December. Check them out on theirMyspace!

It was a great honour to be asked to host a special after show for the great ‘Bad Lieutanant’ at the stylish Odder Bar on Manchester’s Oxford Road on October 22nd, after their sold out show at The Ritz!

It was also Trekstock’s first outing in the city and we had a great time, making lots of new friends and hanging out with old faces and supporters such as our fantastic DJ’s for the night Tim Burgess of the Charlatans, Mani from the Stone Roses, Tin Tin and more… The band and their friends and fans helped us raise over £600 for Trekstock supporting Teenage Cancer Trust on the night and we send big thank you’s to all!

We climbed the mighty Mulanje, Malawi!

From the very first days of Trekstock, one of the most important aspects of the charity has been to partake in a trek for the awesome Teenage Cancer Trust! There was Everest Base Camp in 2006, Crossing the Andes in 2007, making like Sawyer and Kate and trekking through the jungle in Costa Rica in 2008… and this year the challenge we faced was to climb the mighty Mount Mulanje in Malawi, Africa!

Of course we did it!! (despite hairy caterpillar’s, sickness, mountain toilet ‘troubles’ and very scary bridges as high as the sky!)

Malawi is known as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ and offers a truly authentic African experience. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast and Mozambique, which surrounds it on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi with unrivaled scenery, the kindest and most generous people and memories that we will all treasure!

Mount Mulanje is Central Africa’s highest mountain, rising up to over 3000 metres and it was a tough climb! Trekking here is incredible, taking you up numerous peaks and along trails intersected by deep-forested ravines and on paths shaded by the rare Mulanje cedar as you trace the footsteps of prodigy explorer David Livingstone who reached Lake Malawi in 1859. After 6 days trekking we reached our goal and just loved every minute of it!

By trekking for TCT we helped to make a difference to the lives of the many teenagers and young adults with cancer that the charity tries to help. Our trek group once again was fantastic, from all walks of life and we were never short of story or two!

Here’s a selection of pictures and a link to our groups collection…

If you would like to trek for Teenage Cancer Trust or find out more about some exciting Trekstock trek ideas for 2010 - just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help! It really is amazing.

Our bags & t’s will be available on ASOS!

Today was the big day! Our friends at the wonderful ASOS have kindly arranged to sell the Trekstock t’s - we’ll be a brand new label on their website and you can head straight there for your ‘limited edition’ Trekstock fashion collaborations, as modeled by Kelly Osbourne, Beth Ditto and more…

The only problem is, we needed to package and label and box all these goodies and there just weren’t enough hands at Trekstock Towers!

Our amazing friend Genna at Sip Drink came to help out and brought some yummy waters which we polished off with our giant baked potatoes and beans (fuel for all the hard work!)

Thanks guys! Check ASOS soon for your chance to own the last of the 2009 special Trekstock t-shirts or bags with the proceeds going to Teenage Cancer Trust…
