From the very first days of Trekstock, one of the most important aspects of the charity has been to partake in a trek for the awesome Teenage Cancer Trust! There was Everest Base Camp in 2006, Crossing the Andes in 2007, making like Sawyer and Kate and trekking through the jungle in Costa Rica in 2008… and this year the challenge we faced was to climb the mighty Mount Mulanje in Malawi, Africa!
Of course we did it!! (despite hairy caterpillar’s, sickness, mountain toilet ‘troubles’ and very scary bridges as high as the sky!)

Malawi is known as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ and offers a truly authentic African experience. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast and Mozambique, which surrounds it on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi with unrivaled scenery, the kindest and most generous people and memories that we will all treasure!
Mount Mulanje is Central Africa’s highest mountain, rising up to over 3000 metres and it was a tough climb! Trekking here is incredible, taking you up numerous peaks and along trails intersected by deep-forested ravines and on paths shaded by the rare Mulanje cedar as you trace the footsteps of prodigy explorer David Livingstone who reached Lake Malawi in 1859. After 6 days trekking we reached our goal and just loved every minute of it!
By trekking for TCT we helped to make a difference to the lives of the many teenagers and young adults with cancer that the charity tries to help. Our trek group once again was fantastic, from all walks of life and we were never short of story or two!
Here’s a selection of pictures and a link to our groups collection…
