Festival Trekking? Trekstock and vinspired Lake of Stars make a date in Malawi

It’s not every day that the thought of trekking to a festival seems like a sensible idea. Certainly not if you’re the type who stumbles through the turnstiles at 2am with a wheelbarrow full of instant noodles and crates of beer, but it’s what Trekstock’s Sophie Epstone does and it’s what she does it for that’s important.

Sophie has trekked to Everest, the Andes and the Costa Rican jungle in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, and this year is trekking for 10 days to the 3rd highest mountain in Africa – Mount Mulanje, reaching 10,000ft, in Malawi. Her final destination is Lake Malawi, to which she’ll be making her way with fellow trekkers to get involved with this year’s vinspired Lake of Stars Festival.

Sophie says; ‘I’m going to head to the vinspired Lake of Stars festival on the 15th of October and help out, the idea is to take Trekstock to Malawi and hopefully get some new supporters on board too. It will be great to be able to speak to current supporter Radio 1’s Nihal over there and maybe get some of the UK bands on board for future gigs in London….’

‘The festival is a really exciting opportunity for Trekstock also in future and talks are underway about how we can merge the trek/festival experience possibly for 2010, so that music lovers can experience the festival yet also undertake a challenge and give back to charity on both sides of the globe at the same time. ‘

The trekkers will be meeting up with artists playing at vinspired Lake of Stars including The Maccabees, SWAY, Nihal, Hot Chip, Tayo, Radioclit and African artists The Black Missionaries, DJ Mo Laudi, Dominant 1 & Third Eye and Ben Mankhamba amongst others.

Grazia - Party Beat: Trekstock Loves

Ever go to a wild party, thinking you look a million dollars, find the photos on Facebook the next day to discover you were not the glam diva you thought and just a sweaty (but happy) mess? Well, then you’re going be rather jealous of the pictures that follow.

Trekstock Loves (a collaborative project with designers like Henry Holland and Ksubi supporting charity Teenage Cancer Trust, launching in Browns Focus in February 2010) threw a shindig at Bungalow 8 resulting in some seriously cool pics of all the names to know right now in our little U of K.

Richard Nicoll struck a pose, as did Ben Grimes (who saved the party at the last minute when a naughty rumour spread that the party was shifting to Mahiki where Jeremy Scott was hosting a bash as well and steered everyone back in the right direction), Amy and Percy of PPQ, Julia Restoin Roitfeld and Jaquetta Wheeler amongst many others found time to duck out of partying along to the Friendly Fires DJ set to get snapped wearing their Trekstock badges too.
So, if you’re planning a night out sometime this week, take note…

Reading Festival Rocked!

Here’s what Jordan had to say about what fun he had and who he met…

‘With a main stage line up strong enough to embarrass rival other festival’s entire line up’s - Reading 09 was a festival cake everyone wanted a slice of!

As Trekstock has had a presence at every major festival this summer, it was only right Reading was on their list of things to do.

Gaining some new celebrity friends & rekindling some old friendships, the people of Reading 09 saw Trekstock take the festival by storm.

After hanging out with old Trekstock friends, the lovely Zane Lowe and Nick Grimshaw, we bumped into half the cast of everybody’s favourite film, Harry Potter, and Daniel and the gang were more than happy to show their support.

Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead headlined this year’s sold out summer event, with the likes of Florence and the Machine, Jamie T, Bombay Bicycle Club and Friendly Fires also playing unforgettable sets with only a little bit of rain!

Although Friday and Saturday’s main stage was hit with sound difficulties, Sunday made everyone forget about the previous night’s flaws and focus on the main band of the weekend - the almighty Radiohead!! Thom Yorke and friends played for 2 hours solid blasting song after  song, echoed each time by the audience singing along.

Overall a very enjoyable weekend & a pleasure to be apart of.
