What cancer were you diagnosed with? Hodgkin Lymphoma

At what age were you diagnosed? 20

What has helped you to thrive? I didn’t talk about my experience for many years but have now created a theatre show that I am taking a theatre show up to Edinburgh Fringe Festival to talk about what cancer actually is and the question that stuck in my head- how am I still here?

Toby's Story

I was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma when I was 20 and had a small amount of chemotherapy before going into remission. Sadly I relapsed 6 months later and then had some more chemotherapy before having an Autogenous stem cell transplant.

I didn’t talk about my experience for many years but have now created a theatre show that I am taking a theatre show up to Edinburgh Fringe Festival to talk about what cancer actually is and the question that stuck in my head- how am I still here? I look at the chemotherapy cocktails and Willy Wonka’s Stem Cells in the show as I take the audience to the Cancer Club. More information on that here.

I’ve taken on a number of charity events since being in remission to raise money for various charities that helped me through my treatment and took part in the London Marathon this year.

I want to be involved with the Trekstock Network for the opportunity to talk to like-minded individuals who understand the trails and tribulations of a cancer diagnosis and the impact it can continue to have on a life post treatment. I also would like to be a support for anyone who is going through the treatment and offer advice to others.
